Progress Monitoring
Environmental consultants must conduct a site reconnaissance in the beginning stages of a project which can become time consuming. Challenges can arise as many sites are difficult to walk through due to the size of the property, overgrown vegetation, and hazards that lie underneath. Drones can be deployed to capture aerial imagery of the site in less time, which can assist in exposing areas of concern that might be missed by consultants in the field.
Using aerial photos and videos to keep track of progress on the site can keep projects on schedule and prevent projects from going over budget. Additionally, aerials can be utilized to inform project managers of site conditions and can help them plan accordingly.
Accurate Mapping
Drones can be used to create accurate maps such as DTMs, DSMs, and orthomosaics. These maps can illustrate drainage areas, vegetation, and elevation variation across the site. Point clouds can be created to measure 3D metrics such as distances, areas, and volumes.
